Emission technologies in vehicles, even newer ones, can deteriorate over time. Vehicle emissions are responsible for more than 18 per cent of smog-causing pollution created in Ontario, despite today’s cleaner vehicles and fuels. That being said, with so many people keeping their older vehicles for much longer, the government has made the decision of making a more accurate test to prevent smog causing vehicles to remain on the road, forcing the general population to either repair their existing vehicle, or upgrade to a newer, more fuel efficient vehicle.

Drive Clean reduces smog-causing emissions by an annual average of 36 per cent. In 2010, the program kept about 35,000 tonnes of smog-causing pollutants out of our air, which keeps us breathing happy. With thousands of commuters travelling the QEW in the golden horseshoe every day, the Drive Clean program makes a world of difference.
